200 days have passed since Israel's war on Gaza began.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza reached its 200th day on Tuesday amid growing concerns over a potential ground assault in the densely populated southern area of Gaza.
Overnight, the Israeli army conducted heavy shelling in the Gaza neighborhoods of Tuffah, Shujayea, and Zeitun, with reports of explosions echoing across southwest Gaza and Khan Younis. Air raids targeted areas near the Bureij refugee camp, while artillery fire struck the Nuseirat refugee camp.
The military stated that it targeted multiple Hamas positions in southern Gaza, including military observation points and launch sites, with approximately 25 targets hit by warplanes.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, Israel’s military offensive has resulted in the deaths of at least 34,183 individuals in Gaza since October 7, predominantly women and children. The latest update from the ministry, issued on Tuesday, reported at least 32 deaths within the previous 24 hours.
Figures released by the Government Media Office in Gaza indicate that Israel has dropped 75,000 tonnes of explosives on the Gaza Strip during the 200 days of conflict, causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. The devastation includes the destruction or damage of 380,000 housing units, 412 schools and universities, 556 mosques, three churches, and 206 archaeological and heritage sites. Additionally, 32 hospitals and 53 health centers have been rendered inoperative, with 126 ambulances also targeted. The economic losses are estimated to exceed $30 billion.
For Palestinians in Gaza, recent days have brought further anguish, with reports from the territory’s Civil Defence agency revealing the recovery of approximately 200 bodies at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis over the preceding three days, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the medical complex.
