The first trailer for the picture was unveiled on Tuesday night, giving fans their first extended glimpse of what to expect from the Joker sequel of 2019. Warner Bros. and DC Studios posted a 27-second teaser video on Tuesday morning, alerting fans to the impending release of the first full trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux.
The first, brief footage features Phoenix's Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker, standing motionless in what looks to be a prison yard, laughing uncontrollably while soaking from the downpour. Joker: Folie à Deux is one of the movies the company is showcasing at CinemaCon in Las Vegas from its 2024 film slate. On October 4, the movie will be released in theaters.
Naturally, the teaser trailer shows Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga) and Arthur/Joker together with the story of how they met while they were both in institutions. After they become close, they decide to escape the facility, and chaos ensues.
Lady Gaga Introduces Music To The Mad World of The Joker
While the evil Joker has long been associated with DC Comics as the Caped Crusader's arch-enemy, Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn has established herself as an antihero thanks to her roles in the two Suicide Squad films from DC Studios and Birds of Prey.
In the teaser, Arthur Fleck/Joker explains why music is essential to his and Harley's tale, with the iconic song What the World Needs Now by composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David playing over the action.
At the start of the trailer, Fleck states, "We use music to make us whole... To balance the fractures within ourselves."
It remains to be seen just how lavish a musical film Joker: Folie à Deux will become. For the time being, the Joker sequel seems to have a lot of music. Joker: Folie à Deux will reportedly have 15 cover songs in addition to possible new original song additions.
If Todd Phillips, Warner Bros., and DC Studios decide to include at least one original song in Joker: Folie à Deux, don't be shocked. After all, Lady Gaga co-wrote the ballad Shallow for the movie A Star Is Born, which helped her win a Best Original Song Oscar. The pop star's stirring performance of the song alongside Bradley Cooper in the movie undoubtedly helped as well.
Of course, Joker: Folie à Deux doesn't just showcase Lady Gaga as an Oscar winner. For his performance in the first Joker film, Joaquin Phoenix was awarded the Best Actor Oscar.
